Individual Spotlight – Sean Cohen

When did you start playing Grifball?
Right about when the original H3P started.

How many seasons have you played in?
SL08, SML08, WL08, SL09, SML09

What was your favorite season? Which version of Grifball did you like the best?
My favorite season was SML08, because it was the season my team got to the Final Four, and because I met a good number of friends during that season. My favorite map is the WL08 map because it is the map that started it all, and the truck is freely hanging. My favorite gametype is the most recent one, because it is the most fair.

What teams have you been on and what team are you on right now?
I have been on Power Outage every season that I played, except SL09 (which I played on 9th Wonders), when we took a short hiatus. I am currently back on PO.

Who would you say is the best tank in Grifball? Trick runner? Hybrid?
Wizzywar. Wizzywar. Wizzywar. Lol, but honestly, that’s a highly subjective question that I do not believe can be answered fairly. Too many factors come into play in Grifball, and I believe what really makes a good player is the ability to capitalize when given the chance to. The same goes with teams as a whole. I don’t always think that making big plays wins the game, but what definitely play a part (at least in the Pro league, where competition is fierce) is being able to take advantage of a situation when your opponent makes a mistake.

What team do you think is the best in the Amateur league? Pro league?
This is a subjective question that I do not feel is capable of being answered.

Who is your favorite player? Team?
I like me and PO. I am a narcissist.

Do you have a rival player? Team?
My rival player is probably TheCokester, because he betrays me so much. PO doesn’t exactly have a true rival team anymore (it used to be That One Team), but the team that I have always wanted to beat, and finally did a few weeks ago (yes, on host, I know, don’t knock me down in my prime), was SYLaL. During the Final Four of SML08, they came back from our 4-2 lead and won. It was a crushing defeat after being so close to victory, but overall, it was a good second season for the team.

If you could change one thing about Grifball what would it be?
The option to end games early if you are losing.

If you had to pick one thing you didn’t like about Grifball what would it be?
Make the truck freely hanging on that crane thing, like it was in WL08. The truck was put there for lulz, so if it fell, it added a whole new comedic value to the game, which Burnie definitely would have wanted. Idk, I’m not as much of a “change” person, and I like to see traditions held on to, but that’s just me.

If you had to pick one thing about Grifball that you absolutely loved what would it be?
Getting “recon” goals. I’m not sure how many other players in the league use that term, but PO players seemed to pick it up after TheCokester used it once in a scrimmage. It’s basically when you just get behind the opponents defense, steal the ball with the opponents’ little to no knowledge of your presence, and run it in for a quick goal. It’s highly rewarding, and can frustrate teams that have shaky chemistry. If you do that against a team that is known to argue a lot (like PO, when Proj3ct Snake is playing), it can easily turn the tides of the game, or just allow you to pwn even more.

What are your thoughts on the possibility of a Ranked Grifball playlist?
It’s cool, in a perfect world. BUT, I have read A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court by Mark Twain, and have acknowledged the dangers of creating a idealistic society.

If a team got paid to participate in one of the leagues what would your impression be?
If it was Power Outage, then it would be cool. If it was any other team, it would be stupid.

Are there any controversies that you can recall from your experience that sticks in your mind?
LOLOLOOL. WWCAD? If you don’t know what that is, see my answer to the ninth question.

Which team do you think will win the Amateur GBSML09? Pro GBSML09?
I would like OpFor to win Amateur. They are a good group of guys who deserve to win, and have the ability and skill to do it. Um, for Pro, I would hope that Power Outage won, but that’s probably a biased statement. Besides us, I would say SYLaL. They were the team that beat us in the playoffs last time PO had this lineup, so I would only accept a loss from them.
